You don’t have to be an environmental expert to understand that plants look attractive, both indoor and outdoor, but if you dig a little deeper you will discover that there are a lot more benefits to indoor plants than just their beauty and aesthetics.
I mean, having some indoor plants does more than make you feel like you've got this whole adult thing down but studies do actually show that interacting with indoor plants can even psychologically as well as a few other things, whether they are real or artificial!

Because plants have large surface areas and exchange gases and water with their surroundings, plants can help tackle some of the above issues.
According to NASA, plants remove toxins from the air around us and can remove up to 87% of volatile organic compounds. VOCs include substances like formaldehyde (present in rugs, vinyl, cigarette smoke and grocery bags), benzene and trichloroethylene (both found in man-made fibres, inks and solvents).
NASA research discovered that plants actually purify any trapped air that has all these volatile organic compounds by pulling contaminants into soil, where root zone microorganisms convert VOCs into food for the plant, how interesting is that?!
Most of us will already know just from our own experience but interior plants can really help with feeling more at ease in our surroundings. When you walk into buildings that have interior plants, they may be more quieter and relaxed but they will also feel a lot more inviting and interesting. I can say from personal experience that having interior plants in a building I have worked in or visited has had the same effect on me and I have felt a lot more at ease and more welcome in those environments.
Being “under the influence of plants” can increase memory retention up to 20 percent, according to a University of Michigan study.
The Dutch Product Board for Horticulture even commissioned a workplace study that discovered that just by adding plants to office settings that it decreases fatigue, that there are less sick days and less colds, headaches, coughs, sore throats and flu-like symptoms.
Like mentioned above, you might notice that when you walk into a building that has indoor plants, the building may seem a lot quieter and more relaxed and this is because indoor plants can help to reduce background noise levels inside buildings, too.
Plants absorb sound best in acoustically live spaces, such as those that feature hard surfaces.
What’s great about buying your interior plants is that the plants you choose don’t even have to be real! If you're like me and don’t have the time or aren’t good at remembering things like watering your plants daily, you might want to pick up some artificial plants instead of real ones, this way you don’t have to worry about watering them and cleaning up after them if they start to wilt.
