Halloween DIY Crafts

Halloween is the perfect holiday to do fun craft activities with the kids, or to treat yourself to some creative me-time. Other than the classic pumpkin carving and costume making, there are so many spooky DIY tips and tricks you can try this Halloween! Take a look at a few of our own DIY projects below:

SPOOKY SHOTS

You will need:

Firstly start by choosing how many shots you would like to create. There may be 12 mini bottles sold in a set, but you can always save these for future projects, they are great for fairy lights, wedding favours and mini sweet jars.

Next, it’s time to get creative! Remove the decorative labels and grab a pen. Create a spooky label that says ‘Happy Halloween or ‘Trick or Treat’. If you’re not confident with drawing them, take a look at our free PDF that you can download. Simply print out and stick on to your labels.

Now it’s time to create your own shots, the possibilities are really endless here! I have chosen to create Trick or Treat themed shots, some sweet and some bitter. For the Treat shots I have created a Limoncello, I followed this recipe here and found the outcome to be incredible, it tastes like an alcoholic sherbet lemon! To make this spooky I simply added a very small amount of green food colouring.

For the Trick shot I followed this recipe to make a bitter tasting cocktail, this one is sure to have your guests pulling some funny faces!

If you’re not a fan of alcohol, or fancy trying this with the kids, you can create some Trick or Treat themed drinks by using tonic water for the bitter drinks and lemonade for the sweet ones and combining them with some crazy food colouring like green and purple! A key tip here when pouring your drinks into the bottles, is to always use a jug! I found it easier to create the cocktail in the jug first, stir it all together and then pour into the mini bottles, there was not a spill in sight!

Once the drinks have been poured, reattach the labels and et voila, you have yourself a selection of spooky shots that will be great for Halloween dinner parties or the non-alcoholic version that will be fantastic for a ‘Trick or Treat’ themed night with the kids!

CREEPY SWEET JARS

You will need:

Firstly start by taking your jar and placing a small amount of double sided tape or blu-tack at the bottom of the side you want as the back of the jar. Take the roll of wool or other alternative and stick the end piece to the tape or blu-tac.

Then roll the wool randomly around the jar, making sure to cluster some parts together and separate others. Once you reach the top, repeat the process of taping the wool down, on the same side you placed the first piece.

Next take the spiders (after you’ve played pranks on all your household of course!) and hook them onto the string. I found these spiders great as they had tiny hooks on the back, making this task a breeze. If not you could always use the sticky tape or blu-tack to stick the spiders on.

Now comes the tasty bit! Once you’ve placed the spiders exactly where you would like them, fill the jar with goodies! From sweets to cakes, this jar is fantastic for a spooky halloween treat.

HALLOWEEN TABLE SETTING

After creating your spooky shots and creepy jars, you can make an amazing table setting with both of these items. For this you will need:

Firstly take your creepy jars and remove (or eat) all the sweets inside! Keeping the lid removed, place tealights into the jar and light using a long match or lighter. Place the jar as the centerpiece on the table, then wrap the ivy around, leaving space for the spooky shots.

HALLOWEEN TABLE SETTING

Once you’ve decided where you will place the shots, take some cotton wool balls and tear until the wool looks very fine and it resembles spider webs.

HALLOWEEN TABLE SETTING

Put your shots within the ivy, then place the plastic spiders around the centerpiece.

And now you have the perfect spooky centerpiece for a Halloween themed dinner party. If you have a large table, try using and decorating all three of the vintage glass jars.
