Weddings are such beautiful events. Celebrating a couple's love for one another on such a special day is an amazing celebration to be a part of, but also a special day that comes with lots of planning and sometimes, a lot of stress.
If you have ever been to a wedding, I’m sure you can appreciate the time and effort that goes into making the big day happen. From guests lists to table plans, to travel and accommodation and the all-mighty decorations, these things are thoroughly thought through, start to finish and can often end up in chaos, especially when it comes to having the perfect decorations.
But all decorations don’t have to cost an arm and a leg, especially if you don’t mind getting stuck in and creating your own easy DIY decorations. It can take up some of your own time but if you are aiming to keep the costs down then I would definitely recommend doing some DIY.
With more bride’s than ever opting for a budget-friendly big day, I’ve rounded up some of the best ways to save on your wedding decorations and still have some fun while you’re doing it!
If you are the bride to be and looking for easy DIY decor ideas or if you are a friend, helping to plan the wedding and are in charge of the decor, I would suggest gathering together your bridal party or a few friends to help out. That way they can help give any of these creative ideas a go or enlist some of your close relatives to give you a hand. Doing it alone isn’t half as fun as it could be!
Here are our top ten DIY ideas:
As if you needed another excuse to dive into your wine collection… Instead of throwing your wine and beer bottles away once enjoying a bottle, or two, save them and turn them into art! Paint the bottles to match the wedding’s colour scheme, decorate them with burlap cloth if you are aiming for more of a rustic look and then fill them with flowers or even tea light candles to use as centrepieces. There are endless amounts of ideas that you can do with the wine bottles so make sure to visit Pinterest or do a quick internet search for more suggestions.
Do you and your guests have a similar love for food as you? Fill these Maison & White Hexagonal Jam Jars up with delicious homemade jams or chutneys for your guests to take home and enjoy. Or if you are wanting to decorate the outside area for your night guests, fill the jars with some fairy LED lights and scatter them around outside!
Depending on the theme of your wedding, you can create your very own seating plan, suited perfectly to your special day. If you’re going for a more rustic look, take a big board of wood, decorate the edges with some fake flowers and greenery and hand each table with the guest’s names on a string in multiple rows. If you are going for more of a glam look, take a large mirror and display the names with glitter writing or even create a collage with old photo frames together to represent each table. Whatever design you choose, it will be exactly how you like it and won’t cost a fortune.
Gather together some empty mason jars and fill them with your favourite flowers, with colours to match your colour scheme, place them on top of some wooden logs if you like that look and even tuck in your table numbers amongst the bouquet, accompanied with some tea lights they will make beautiful floral centrepieces for your guests to admire.
Having family photos at a wedding is always a good conversation starter, as well as adding that personal touch and making tributes to your nearest and dearest family members. The photo wall doesn’t have to be anything extravagant if you don’t want it to and if the wedding venue doesn’t allow you to hang or stick anything on the walls, place the photos into a variety of old or new photo frames and dedicate a nice large table to showcase some old family photos or baby pictures of the bride and groom that will guarantee some laughs.
You don’t have to pay for an enormous sweet cart to make your display of sweet treats look nice and tasty, they look tasty anyway! Just by decorating a long table with some buntings and signs for the sweets and sweet jars, (the signs and buntings can be homemade) and a selection of sweet bags, you can transform a boring, plain table into something that looks like it’s been sent from the Willy Wonka factory
Imagine walking into the wedding venue and being greeted with beautiful ‘floating’ tealights, hanging from the tree branches, flickering in mid-air. The Maison & White Hanging Tealight Candle Holders can transform the outside of the venue and will stun guests with their beauty. Fill them with tea lights, bundles of fairy lights or even fake succulent plants to add some more greenery. These little guys give the perfect finishing touch you didn’t even know you needed.
By using these Set of 12 Miniature Glass Bottles by Maison & White, you can fill them with different varieties of alcohol such as sloe gin or a shot of your guests favourite alcohol or for the kids and non-drinkers, some sweets to enjoy between courses. You could even use them as your guest’s place settings by tieing a piece of card around the bottle so you’re guests know who’s sitting where. As well as giving your guests their boozy favour or sweet treat, why not hang them up with LED fairy lights inside? They will look mesmerising when it gets dark.
The most anticipated part of any wedding has got to be watching the bride walk down the aisle, nothing else in that moment seems to matter and can take everyone’s breath away in an instant. So why not make that moment even more breathtaking and completely transform the aisle with these Tall Glass Storm Lantern Candle Holders? Fill them with tall candles and arrange them down the aisle along with some petals and crystals to create a mesmerising scene for the big entrance. A moment everyone will remember.
As well as thinking about all the above it’s always good to have the following items when planning a wedding, you never know what other decorations you might need:
Hopefully, with these great DIY hacks, we’ve inspired you to go hands-on when it comes to the wedding decorations and details. Whatever the colour scheme or theme of the wedding, these ideas can be made to suit everything, making the special day a day to remember forever.
